Nov 20, 2018 Trane has removed the link on their site to update the software on the XL950. 1) What is the latest version of the software / firmware for this particular thermostat? 2) Is there a link to the latest software / firmware online that can be downloaded to an SD card? We used to update it ourselves but after Trane removed the link, it has not updated as it supposedly does not update over wifi. Choose the “Trane ComfortLink™ II Control” from the Thermostats options and click “Continue” Read through the instructions carefully on the following page; there may be some extra steps here to ensure that your ComfortLink™ II is updated with the latest software. Then, click “Continue” when ready to get started.

Trane 950 Thermostat Update
I've had this controller for my trane heat pump for a few years without any problems, apart from automatic firmware updates not working anymore. The firmware seeming hasn't been updated in a long while from what I can find on the web.
I recently installed a google wifi router that I can use to monitor my bandwith and the Trane is consuming a whopping 30-60 Gigs a month, 90% from uploads. This is nuts and I can't find anything similar with this thermostat.
Apart from this it's woking fine, and I can still control it from outside the house (which is the point of Wifi access). Are these units still supposed to get support? I could turn off the wifi but I find it very convenient. I've turned off integration with SmartThings, and restarted the thermostat a few times but nothing has changed.
As a last resort, would it be possible to replace it myself with something newer like an Ecobee3 without loosing any features of my heat pump? Thanks!
