Collaboration between the departments of Theater and Dance and Television at Ohlone College. This sitcom was a project for the Acting for the Camera class. One of the ways the Deaf distinguish themselves as a culture is by capitalizing the word Deaf and working to change mainstream America’s attitude. The Deaf culture doesn’t believe in using the word 'disabled' because that word makes implies “less than” – as though they are lacking something.

Family members that embrace deaf culture and become ASL users don’t need to fear this. In fact, hearing family members who embrace the Deaf community can actually strengthen the bonds between themselves and their child. Absolutely BRILLIANT book. Not only are the illustrations funny, but so many of the anecdotes are true. A hearing person might read this and not understand some of the humour, but as a Deafie, I almost had my cup of tea spray out of my nose from laughing so hard. Great book!

This was a great look into some of the common and hopefully not so common experiences of the Deaf Community. My daughter and I are learning American Sign Language and hope to avoid saying or asking something that would embarrass ourselves if given the opportunity to chat with someone who is deaf or hearing impaired. This book gave us some definite “not-to” examples.
Fun and informative!!!!!!!!
